When Worlds Collide (2D Animation Collaboration)
When Worlds Collide is a 2D animated short following the story of Alex exploring his imaginary world. The idea came about when I shared my experience of seeing things differently from how they actually appear when not wearing glasses. My animation partners agreed it was a great idea we could build off of and decided to create an animation.
Collaboration Partners: Ashleigh Blake, Jillian Alusik, Jeshuran Paul, Ronnie Perez
My Responsibilities: Ideation, compositing and video effects (all), in-betweens, lining, color animation (00:44-00:48), and background illustrations
Character Design Sketches
Each member designed their own version of the main character, Alex, without glasses.
I pictured Alex as a reserved student who would burst with energy after discovering himself in a new world.
The group agreed the chosen design would be easier to keep consistent throughout the animation.
Rough Storyboard
After finalizing the script, we split it between us to efficiently progress through our animation and meet upcoming deadlines.
While working on my rough storyboard, I found enjoyment in thinking about how the story should be expressed. I was also taking a Filmmaking I class and tried to incorporate different shots to make the animation more engaging.
Background Illustrations
I was in charge of illustrating all the backgrounds for the imagination world. To contrast the reality backgrounds, the imagination world is filled with vivid colors and a bit more cartoony.
